Course Description

Scene Study for the Camera

This class prepares the actor with the language and mechanics involved in the art of acting for film and television. This portion of the program is the perfect hybrid of learning the technical aspects behind all scene work with the triggers and knowledge to deliver them organically, on cue and at will. We focus on characterization, relationships, subtext, text analysis, tactics, obstacles, objectives, connecting to your scene partners, status, environment, moments before & after and understanding the elements of a classic three act structure.

Audition Intensive

The skill of applying for a job is completely unique from the skills of being able to do the job. Those who job interview well often find their opportunities amplified. There is no exception to that rule within this industry. This class teaches you all of the things you need to do to separate yourself from the rest of the pack; from exposing urban myths of the “dos” and “do not’s” of what you can and can’t do in the room, utilizing all of your allies to ensure you are at 100% for every audition, learning a simple 7 step format that ensures you have a strong audition with smart choices every time you go in the room, and learning how to book the role before the actual audition sides are performed!

Voice-Overs (Radio & Animation)

The voice-over industry in Vancouver has developed into one of the most respected in the world. We record numerous animated series and movies as well as countless commercials for both radio and television. This course teaches the actor the fundamentals of microphone technique, the various tones of voicing commercials, and the language you need to know to work in this field. Students graduate with a completed voice-over demo allowing them to pursue this area of work immediately upon graduation.

Guest Speakers

We will have industry specialists come in to work the class throughout the year. This will be made up of working industry professionals; Casting Directors, Talent Agents, Producers and Directors. This will be a chance to work hands on with those you will be working with upon graduation in an educational, supportive environment.

Commercials (Radio & Television)

This can be a lucrative opportunity for any actor, whether you are looking to pay bills until the film and television career kicks in or if you want to consider this a long term part of your performing career. This class focuses on the various tones of selling and the specific audition techniques needed to succeed in this ultra-competitive market. This is accomplished through performing various commercial auditions throughout the term with one of our instructors who has a strong understanding of this process.

Improv (for Set & the Audition Room)

Most of us know improv as the showcase art form it has become with shows like “Whose Line is it Anyway” but this essential skill is something that the working actor uses everyday. It is imperative both in preparation for roles already booked and as an important tool you need if you want to be able to stand out in the audition room. Each week we learn new exercises that compliment other areas of focus in your training.

Our training takes place at the studio with Casting Directors working in the studios next to us while we train. This is a wonderful opportunity to start working in a space that you will spend a lot more time in once you join the professional ranks.
